About Hawen
The Horn of Africa Women Empowerment Network (HAWEN) is a women-led local non-governmental organization based in Somalia, dedicated to transforming the lives of women, youth, and vulnerable communities. Established with the vision of creating a just and inclusive society, HAWEN addresses the critical challenges faced by marginalized groups through a comprehensive approach that integrates health, education, human rights, and socio-economic empowerment. Our work is grounded in the belief that empowered women and youth are essential to building resilient and peaceful communities. We focus on enhancing access to healthcare and nutrition, providing quality education and vocational training, advocating for human rights, and promoting active political participation. HAWEN also tackles pressing issues such as gender-based violence, child protection, climate change, and violent extremism, working tirelessly to create safe and supportive environments for all. With a dedicated team of professionals and a network of local and international partners, HAWEN combines research, advocacy, and direct service delivery to drive impactful change. Our programs are designed to empower individuals with the skills, knowledge, and resources they need to overcome adversity and realize their full potential. At HAWEN, we are committed to integrity, transparency, and community-centered approaches, ensuring that our actions are guided by the voices and needs of those we serve. By fostering collaboration and building capacity at the grassroots level, we aim to create sustainable solutions that uplift entire communities. Our Impact: Through our diverse programs, we have empowered thousands of women and youth, provided critical legal aid, protected vulnerable children, and championed the rights of those often left behind. As we continue to grow, we remain steadfast in our mission to empower voices, transform lives, and build a future where equality, justice, and peace prevail.
